Fire Chief Edward Badamo and The South Fire District are honored to announce their receipt of a World Trade Center artifact.

On Thursday, May 19, 2011, firefighters from The South Fire District traveled to JFK airport in New York City to obtain a nearly eight-foot long piece of steel that was part of the skeleton of one of the World Trade Center buildings. Transferred from the Port Authority's custody, the artifact will be used as a centerpiece in a planned permanent memorial in front of the Firehouse on Randolph Road.

As the ten-year anniversary of 9-11 approaches, this memorial will serve as a way to remember those lives lost on that tragic day for decades to come.
